Bilateral: FAA ⇄ EASA (BASA)

The EU–US BASA streamlines PPL conversion (FAA AC 61-143). Professional licences (CPL/ATPL) are not covered by the agreement — the full conversion above applies.

Application & verification

There is no automatic conversion. Apply to your member-state NAA; training/experience credits under (EU) 2020/723 may reduce the requirements.

Theory exams

Pass the required EASA theoretical exams (CPL, or ATPL theory if you hold ATPL-theory credit). Foreign exam passes are not credited.

Flight test

Pass an EASA CPL skill test (plus IR skill test if you want the instrument rating).

Medical

Hold an EASA Part-MED Class 1 medical.

English language proficiency

Pass an EASA ELP assessment.

Your notes for this conversion

Keep exam bookings, examiner contacts and paperwork reference numbers in one place — notes are saved to your account with Captain.

Always confirm via the official links. These steps reflect each authority's published requirements, but the exact path depends on your licence, ratings and experience, and rules are updated periodically. Verify the current requirements with the target authority before you commit time or money. AvLink isn't a regulator and doesn't issue licences.
