Who licenses pilots in France

Training in France is licensed by the Direction générale de l'Aviation civile (DGAC), under EASA Part-FCL, the common European licensing rules.

The licences, in order

  1. 1.LAPL — Light Aircraft Pilot Licence
  2. 2.PPL — Private Pilot Licence
  3. 3.CPL — Commercial Pilot Licence
  4. 4.ATPL — Airline Transport Pilot Licence

The medical

An EASA Class 2 medical for private flying, or a Class 1 if you intend to fly commercially — issued by an Aero-Medical Centre or an approved aeromedical examiner.

Rules change. Treat this as the shape of the system, not as advice — Direction générale de l'Aviation civile (DGAC) is the only source that binds.
