Who licenses pilots in India

Training in India is licensed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), under the Indian Aircraft Rules.

The licences, in order

  1. 1.SPL — Student Pilot Licence
  2. 2.PPL — Private Pilot Licence
  3. 3.CPL — Commercial Pilot Licence
  4. 4.ATPL — Airline Transport Pilot Licence

The medical

A DGCA Class 2 medical to begin, and a Class 1 for a commercial licence — from a DGCA-authorised examiner.

Rules change. Treat this as the shape of the system, not as advice — the DGCA is the only source that binds.
